Cold Weather Accessory Pack for Midcentury Meowdern
$55.00
Our Cold Weather Accessory Pack for the Midcentury Meowdern house model adds extra levels of comfort during freezing temperatures by significantly reducing heat loss through the walls and the openings.
The pack consists of precision cut 1" thick foam board insulation panels, as well as vinyl door and window flaps.
INSULATION
The panels are made of 1" thick foam board insulation material, cut to fit the house and its entrance & window exactly. The panels install / remove in under a minute, without any tools required (see below for installation video).
The bottom of the insulation has a hole that matches the existing wire grommet that comes with the house. Two plugs for this hole are provided: a solid plug to be used if no wires need to go in and out of the house and a wire plug to be used if wires do go in and out of the house (eg. heated bed, camera etc).
Please note that I don't actually recommend keeping the insulation installed year-round, unless you live on the North Pole (Santa...?). The reason for this is that dirt and condensation (or other liquids 😒) might accummulate between the back of the insulation and the house panels and become a breeding ground for all sorts of things we don't want in a cat house.
Also note that with the insulation installed, the inside dimensions of the cubby reduce to 16 wide x 12 deep x 12 high. This is on the snug side, but cats like snug, especially in the cold.
FLAPS
The flaps can be a very valuable tool to keep draft and heat loss down during a cold winter. They are made of durable "super clear" seethrough flexible PVC material and are attached to the insulation or the house via peel-and-stick adhesive velcro strips. Once the velcro is in place, the flaps can be removed / installed as needed.
Please note that flaps can be tricky. First, a cat may or may not be OK with flaps on a house. You may have to experiment to see whether your cat accepts flaps or not. Additionally, reducing / eliminating ventilation might cause condensation issues inside the house. It is simple physics that if you introduce a source of warm water vapor (such as a breathing cat) into a small space with no ventilation, the air will soon saturate with moisture and the surplus water then will have to go somewhere. When using flaps, please make a point to open and check the house regularly and give it a chance to air out. (Then again, depending on the environment the house is sitting in, there might be just enough ventilation even with flaps that condensation is not an issue at all. I'm just warning about this so you remember to check on this and help keep your cat friend safe.)
BUNDLE WITH HOUSE PURCHASE
If you order the Cold Weather Accessories at the same time as you order your Midcentury Meowdern, you save on shipping cost since the insulation will ship inside the in the house (but remember to remove it unless you do need the extra weather protection right away). This discount is applied automatically during checkout.
